Jason Elliott was called to the Bar of Northern Ireland in 2013 and is the Associate Head of School of Law at Ulster University. As a practising barrister, he has developed a largely civil practice representing individuals, companies and public bodies in litigation. This covers a wide range of areas including personal injuries, wills and employment law. In terms of employment law, he has represented both applicants and respondents in the Industrial Tribunal. At Ulster University, Jason lectures extensively on the civil areas of practise such as Equity and Trusts and delivers employment law lectures for both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
This case had originally been decided by the Employment Tribunal before an appeal to the EAT where it was held that the Tribunal had not fully examined whether a protected disclosure had been made by the claimant. The case was remitted to the Tribunal and this was their decision.
The issue related to a statement made by the claimant to his boss, a retired superintendent who had returned to head up the unit, in October 2017. The content of the statement alleged that the claimant’s colleagues were failing to conduct proper research into phone records, business records and GP records when it came to the review of gun licences.
