There are many benefits to working from home, including reduced travel time, more flexible working patterns, and higher levels of productivity. These benefits have brought remote working to the forefront of working life, with many employees in Northern Ireland now working from home on a permanent basis. However, home working can also present a number of health and safety risks and it's important for employees to know how to protect themselves from injury and ill-health when working from home.
The Health and Safety at Work Order (NI) 1978, places certain legal duties on employers and employees to ensure a good standard of health and safety in the workplace. This includes when the employee is working from home.
The purpose of this course is to provide all employees in your organisation with an overview of how to protect their physical and mental health whilst home working. Although the employer is primarily responsible for managing health and safety, all employees have a duty to take care of their own health and safety. It is vital that employees understand their responsibilities under health and safety law.
This course is designed specifically for organisations based in Northern Ireland who have employees working from home.
Topics covered include:
The importance of health and safety when home working
Your responsibilities under health and safety law
How to protect your physical health while home working
How to protect your mental health while home working
How to work together to protect each other
Common household hazards to watch out for

Home working creates unique health and safety risks, from ergonomic concerns to psychological stressors. Proper training empowers employees to:
Prevent mental health challenges caused by isolation or overwork
Avoid physical injuries like repetitive strain or back pain
Minimise disruptions from illness or injuries, reducing time off work
Sustain productivity and maintain long-term career health
Understanding these risks helps build a healthier, safer workforce and reduces costs associated with absenteeism and turnover for employers.
This course is essential for organisations with remote employees. All employees, regardless of role, need to understand how to care for their own health and safety.
Good practices in home working means a safer and healthier workforce; and consequently a more effective workforce.
This course will take no longer than 30 minutes to complete including an assessment. Each member of staff will receive their own personalised certificate upon successful completion.
